Long-lasting side effects of Nexium: a proton pump inhibitor

Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), a medication which is used against the production of gastric acid. Nexium contains esomeprazole magnesium which is generally used in the case of heartburn and acid reflux diseases, gastric and duodenal ulcers, etc. It is also useful if the patient suffers from Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, which is also a consequence of stomach acid. Nexium works through blocking the enzyme in the stomach wall, causing less acidic deliverance and healing the stomach wall.

Side-effects of Nexium
Usually Nexium users do not show any type of fast and visible side-effects, but like other medicines some minor side-effects are observed in this case too. Most people have substantial capacity to absorb it well, but many complaints came in the context.

The most common side effects of nexium are headache, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, pancreatitis and dryness of the mouth. Recent researches demonstrated that long term use of Nexium causes higher risk of osteoporosis. These are common symptoms which are observed very frequently, but several side effects are rare and only noticed in some cases. These are Back and Chest pain, increased heart rate, allergic reactions, high blood pressure and hypertension, irritation and depression.

Dyspepsia, dysphagia and taste loss, earache, Ear infection (otitis media), tinnitus, Anemia, Fibromyalgia, Bloody nose, blurry vision, low blood magnesium concentrate: Hypomegnesemia are some more. Due to osteoporosis the risk of fractures of bones increases.

Side-effects of Nexium are also found related with body weight fluctuations, it might be weight gain or weight loss. In some cases, the problems belong to the skin, like acne, angioedema, baffling rash etc.

Nexium facilitates relief in heartburn and heals the damages due to the acid reflux. The side effects of nexium are often so minor that it becomes difficult to find out the main reason behind. A nexium user must tell everything to the doctor, be it a slight change in his body or any allergy. Through a detailed history, it becomes easier for a healthcare provider to treat the problem. Many times the interference of other drugs with Nexium might be harmful, resulting severe consequences, so if you are going to take Nexium for heart burn problem, must aware your doctor about all other medications and over the counter medicines you are taking. Nexium may interact with some anti-fungals, diuretics, Iron supplements and protease inhibitors. Nexium can also interact with Digoxin, a drug used to treat high blood pressure and additional cardiac troubles.

In the case of previous liver disease or any stomach problem, it is taken under medical supervision. One notable thing is that relief of a symptom cannot disregard the other stomach conditions. For pregnant women, Nexium is a big no-no. It is not recommended for breast feeding and going to be moms. If required then the pregnant ladies should be given Nexium only under clinical circumstances, because the effects of this drug on the human foetus is not yet diagnosed.

Recent research on gastroenterology revealed that once you stop taking these proton pump inhibitors the problem of heartburn reappears. That means that you're stuck with these expensive pills for life unless you find an alternative remedy!
